English

The English Curriculum Area is an exciting and vibrant element of Richard Lander School. It not only delivers the formal curriculum both at KS3 and 4, but also strongly supports the whole student and features strongly in the extra curricular and community elements of school life. Theatre visits to both London and the provinces are provided on a regular basis. Sometimes these visits support the study of specific texts, but on other occasions they provide enrichment for students who wish to widen their experience.

Recent visits have included the following:

“The Tempest” Royal Shakespeare Company London

Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre London

“The Tempest” Black Cat Theatre Productions Richard Lander School

”The Tempest” Hall for Cornwall Truro

Equally important are the opportunities that are provided for both formal and informal public speaking and performance. Whenever the competition is held, the school participates in the Rotary “Youth Speaks” competition in which the school has an enviable reputation at county level. Such participation is also reflected in the regular student involvement in the Cornish Gorsedd. Most recently the English team has jointly organised a learning community Saint Piran’s celebration of the Arts.
