History
Teaching staff – Rebecca Hand, John Anstee and Debbie Martin
Students cover a variety of different topics at Key Stage 3 in line
with the National Curriculum for History. At Key stage 4 we currently
offer a choice of 2 G.C.S.E’S (Modern World History and 19th Century
Social and Economic History).
In Year 7 your child will study two units:
Unit 1 – The Romans – topics including The Roman Army, Life in Rome and The collapse of the Roman Empire
Unit 2 – Medieval Realms – topics including The Norman Conquest, The
murder of Thomas Becket, The Black Death and The Peasants Revolt.
In Year 8 your child will study two further units comprising of:
Unit 3 – Britain 1500-1750 – topics including the lives of Tudor and
Stuart Monarchs, The reformation, The English Civil War, and social
life between 1500 and 1750.
Unit 4 – Black Peoples of the Americas – topics including The Slave Trade, Abolition and Civil rights.
In Year 9 your child will complete their study by completing:
Unit 5 – Britain 1750-1900 – topics including The Industrial
Revolution, Life in Industrial Towns, and Campaigns for social and
political reform.
Unit 6 – The Twentieth Century World – topics including World War 1,World War 2, Nazi Germany, and The Cold War
At Key stage 4 we offer two different courses:
1. The OCR Modern World course – student’s complete studies of
International relations 1919-89, Life in Nazi Germany, and Britain
1906-18. The current Coursework option is Russia 1905-45
2. The Edexcel Social and Economic History course –
students currently complete studies on the Changes in farming, the
Growth of the railways, and the Campaign for women to gain the right to
vote. The current coursework option is a study of Jack the Ripper, as
well as a local industry study.
Both courses have a weighting of 75% exam (2 papers) and 25% coursework.
