In December 2015, all Year 7 French classes competed in Francovision, Richard Lander School’s answer to the Eurovision Song Contest, where each class performs a dance routine to a famous French song or translation.
This competition is always highly entertaining and winning is taken very seriously. With Mrs Hocking victorious in 2013 and 2014, the other French teachers were determined she would not score a hat trick but, in the end, her 7L1P class who competed as La Tunisie, proved irresistible to the panel of judges and were chosen as winners due to their cleverly choreographed routine and very enthusiastic performance.
Mrs Hocking emphasised that this had been due to a true team effort, ‘Will Schultz found the song, Arlo Philbey-Wright edited the soundtrack and Caitlin Shaw put in a star performance singing incredibly well and knowing her words so well. With the whole class sorting out the dance, deciding on costumes and learning the song I didn’t really do anything. What a group!’
‘The Fabulous Francovision song contest this year was époustouflant! Costumes and props surpassed anything we have ever seen before and the dance routines were out of this world! Every student in Year 7 learnt and performed a song in French: quite an achievement. Thanks to the tireless Languages team who taught and rehearsed their groups so well. I hope that over the Christmas break they stop waking up with the songs going round in their heads!!’
Mrs J Hargrave, Head of MFL
Very well done to all Year 7!
