Curriculum: Toulouse Exchange 2017

The Toulouse Exchange is a chance for Year 9 and 10 students to make lifelong friends with French penpals and improve their language skills at the same time. This is a week long trip. This year the trip leaders published daily posts on the school Facebook page so we could follow their adventures; Here are some excerpts… and an opportunity to practice your French!

Dimanche 26 Février

Nous sommes arrivés à Toulouse! We have all arrived safely in Toulouse and are enjoying a weekend getting to know our host families and this beautiful 'pink' city!

Lundi 27 Février
Aujourd'hui, nous sommes allés au musée aéronautique, Aeroscopia et nous avons fait du shopping au centre ville. We went to Aeroscopia, an aeronautical museum, where we saw a huge range of aircraft and where we were able to explore the inside of Concorde! After lunch we did some shopping in Toulouse city centre and then returned back to school to meet up with our penpals. Some lessons didn't finish until 5:30pm! Imagine that! A 3:25pm finish doesn't seem so bad now does it?

Mardi 28 Février
Aujourd'hui, nous avons visité la Cité de l'espace où nous avons découvert la vie des astronautes à bord de la Station Spatiale Internationale (ISS). C'était très intéressant! We had a great time today experiencing what life is like as an astronaut in the International Space Station. Did you know that astronauts grow 4cm when they are in space? After a tour of the planets in the planatarium, we returned to school via the patisserie where we enjoyed some delicious cakes and pastries before heading home with our penpals.

Jeudi 2 Mars
Aujourd'hui, nous sommes allés au marché Victor Hugo. We went to an indoor market in Toulouse this morning and did some research on the local specialities of the region as well as sampling some of the produce. Some of us even ordered and ate pizza at 10am! Lessons finished at midday today so we spent the afternoon with our penpals.

Mercredi 1 Mars
Aujourd'hui, nous avons visité le château et les remparts de la cité de Carcassonne. We had a great day today visiting the medieval town of Carcassonne, a Unesco World Heritage site. We did a photo scavenger hunt to get to know this amazing town and its history and then we were able to have a look around the shops in the cobbled streets and buy some souvenirs for our return journey tomorrow. We are all very sad to be leaving tomorrow but have had an amazing week and are looking forward to welcoming our new French friends to Cornwall in a few weeks time. Merci et à bientôt!
