Student Leadership at Richard Lander School
With their dedication, strong work ethic and clean microwave, our Student Leaders are anything but Plain Lazy! Head Boy, Harry Searle, writes about being a Student Leader.
Student leadership is an integral part of the community atmosphere that is always apparent within Richard Lander, and is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience which will be transferable throughout your life, whether that is in further education or in the workplace. Each student leader has their own responsibilities to carry out, playing an important part in the running of the school, and this makes them good role models for the younger students.
However with responsibility comes certain privileges!! Thanks to the hard work of Mr. Beech, the student leaders now have an extremely well equipped common room, purely for their use, which includes top of the range ‘Plain Lazy’ bean bags, a pool table and, most importantly in my eyes, a kettle!! This creates a perfect haven away from the bustling corridors to relax between lessons or before exams. On top of this, there are several great initiatives, such as Vinspired, which allows students to get recognition for any voluntary work they may have done, whether that be in coaching a younger sports team or other out of school contributions. An in-school initiative which is another great opportunity is the Sports Leader programme, which employers and colleges look very favourably upon as it endorses the skills of leadership and the ability to plan ahead.
