Parents: Open Evening 2017

Over 500 prospective students and parents attended Richard Lander School's Open Evening last Thursday and enjoyed meeting Henry the snake and King Henry 8th – in the form of History teacher Mr T Brooker. Visitors also took part in solving a murder mystery and crafting insults like Shakespeare with the English department, making piñata and ordering croissant with Modern Foreign Languages students or lighting methane bubbles and experiencing electrostatic energy with a Van de Graaff generator in the Science corridor. In Creative Arts studios, Director and Playwright Jon Welch worked with students on an upcoming school production, and year 5 & 6 students were invited to join drumming workshops or try out classical and rock instruments. Upstairs new students could explore printing and large scale drawing, enjoy a cream tea, have their name embroidered or compete in ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’ whilst gamers could design their own web games or try out a picAxe Microbot. A great evening was had by all and the school would like thank the 300+ current students who gave up their evening to run activities and give guided tours.
