Friday 9th November saw Richard Lander School united in spots and stripes, raising money for BBC Children in Need through a wealth of unusual and exciting fundraising activities. The day was made even more exciting by a surprise visit from PUDSEY himself!
The Lander Rickshaw Challenge started at 7am sharp with Mrs Madeley spurring staff and students on to cycle the 200 miles from Lands End to Bristol on 5 static bikes parked outside student reception. With this target smashed by 11:30 am, the challenge was extended to York and then to the distance of the One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge (423 miles) and by the end of the school day the team had clocked up 460 miles, raising nearly £400 in the process!
The, much looked forward to, grand finale of the RLS Bake Off began at 1pm with 14 of the most beautiful and delicious cake creations ever seen on sale for 50p for 2 tasters. This was a close fought round, with Katy Wilde and Anna Donlon-Smith’s ‘Pudsey in a bathtub of sweets’ cake winning first place.
Quizmaster Toms hosted a very popular Children in Need quiz with over 20 teams taking part in this challenging lunchtime brain gym activity while the school samba band created a party mood with their catchy rhythms which Pudsey very much enjoyed dancing to. Mrs Juniper kindly brought in her spray tanning equipment and staff were invited to chase away winter pallor for a £5 donation to Children in Need.
Students took part in sponsored runs, walks, silences and French speaking days and RLS ‘Pudsey Games’ included a ’Where’s Pudsey’ challenge, Doughnut Dangling and ’Guess the Weight of the Pudsey Cake’
A huge highlight for many was the wake and shake where Mr Holloway and a school hall full of students were joined by Pudsey and Richard Lander School’s dolphin mascot, FERNANDO GIBSON at his very first public appearance! They danced to Car Wash, Surfing USA and Baby Shark!
Students were also given the opportunity to donate their hard earned merits to this worthy charity with Richard Lander School match funding these at 5p per merit. With over 10,000 merits donated this contributed over £500 to the total raised.
With the money still coming in we
RICHARD LANDER SCHOOL BULLETIN : 22nd November 2018
have raised a superb total of £3657.54 so far, and this is thanks to you for your wonderful support!
The BBC were so impressed with our efforts that 16 of us were invited to The Tate, St Ives, on Friday 16th November to take part in the CHILDREN IN NEED LIVE TV show! This was a wonderful opportunity to meet people who have benefited from the work supported by Children in Need along with fellow fundraisers. We loved the Pick’n’Mix dancers!
We were all on national TV at around 8pm and our students expressed themselves very articulately, with their kindness and commitment to helping others shining out for all to see!
WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO TOOK PART!
