Richard Lander Racing win School Sports Team of the Year at Glittering Gala Event

Added 5 months ago

Richard Lander School’s twice world champion Greenpower team scooped the title of School Sports Team of the Year at The Devon and Cornwall Sports Awards 2018 last week.
The red carpet event was held at Plymouth Pavilions, where the team enjoyed a silver service 3 course meal, before being presented with their award. The team were delighted to find themselves in the company of Olympian and Commonwealth Games champion swimmer, Ben Proud, who won Sports Personality of the Year.
Richard Lander Racing beat off competition from Plymouth College U14 Girls Hockey Team and Plymouth College U15 Boys Cricket Team to clinch the title of School Sports Team of the Year.
Richard Lander Racing retained their F24 World Championship title at the International Greenpower Finals held at Rockingham Motor Speedway last October. This title involves more than just racing in the championships, as they design and build the car that they race in.
The Greenpower Education trust is a charitable organisation set up to promote the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects, through the design and build of electric racing cars. Races are held around the UK and also further afield in the USA, China, Brazil, and Europe. All cars run the same batteries and motor, and must aim to complete the greatest distance over a 90 minute race, two of which are run at each event.
Richard Lander School had their best ever season in 2018. Following the 2017 World Championship win, race wins were recorded at Goodwood, Castle Combe and at Predannack airfield on The Lizard, which put Richard Lander School on the top of the distance records prior to the finals, giving the team pole position for the Rockingham races.
