Richard Lander School students thoroughly enjoyed the annual careers fair and the opportunity to find out about college courses, both academic and vocational, along with employment in the public and private sectors.
Year 10 and 11 spent timetabled lessons visiting all of the stands and filling in a questionnaire to test their research skills, whilst Years 7,8 & 9 had the opportunity to visit the careers fair at lunchtime.
Robot Wars, CPR training, using a mixing desk and virtual reality welding proved to be extremely popular activities with our students, whilst other enjoyed trying on police body armour (very heavy), taking an engineering challenge, stroking the ’Proud to Care’ kitten or puppy, or examining insects!
Everyone who attended agreed that, following the event, they were much more knowledgeable about the options open to them when they leave school.
Thank you so much to the following organisations who gave us a whole day of their staff time, away from their busy schedules, to enthuse and educate our students. They are:
Truro College, Cornwall College, Falmouth Marine School, Duchy College, Falmouth University, Exeter Maths School.
3D Kernow, SERCO, Dynamo Healthcare, Devon and Cornwall Police, Army, Royal Navy, Pendennis, Software Cornwall, WWA (Ward Williams Associates), TSB bank, Hospitality Cornwall, Newquay Orchard, Treliske Hospital, Plymouth Medical Dental, Proud to Care, Cornwall Hospice Care, Reach Social Care.
CSW, Careers4U, Ask Apprenticeships, BF Adventures and, last but by no means least, Richard Lander Alumni!
Thank you to Mrs Datson for organising such a successful event.
