The weekend before last, 27 students travelled to Dartmoor to take part in their first Ten Tors training camp. On Saturday 18th January, students carried 15kg rucksacks for 18km before setting up camp behind the Fox and Hounds Inn, near Lydford. They had access to running water and toilets but no other facilities. They cooked their dinner by torchlight on Trangia stoves before crashing out for the night. On Sunday they rose bright and early to pack up their tents and walk a further 17km. This year, for once, the weather was kind and students and staff enjoyed a glorious weekend of clear skies and tiring, yet invigorating, walking. As well as getting stronger with every training walk, our student’s navigational skills are rapidly improving thanks to Rick’s expert tuition!
Well done to all who took part! The next TT training camp will take place on the 8th/9th February.
