Jess Beckham (Year 8) reports on this weekends Greenpower event:
On Saturday 15th September, the RLR team went to Merryfield in Somerset for the third race of the season. After a successful start at Silverstone Racetrack, and our not-so-successful race at our first qualifying heat at RAF St Mawgan, we were a little unsure, but as it turned out we had no need to worry, because the race went fantastically and the whole team is looking forward to Goodwood National Finals!
The race started at 13:00, and lasted for four hours until 17:00, and we came second, with 93.6 miles on the clock, just 8.4 miles away from the lead car, Raptor Fusion. Our best lap time was 1’45. Greenpower racing requires competitors to race for 4 hours on 6 batteries, and to get as far as they can in that time.
Oli Bealing (12) who drove RLR1 at the finish said “I expected to finish in 4th or 5th position, but I could see from my team, who were Mexican waving, that we were doing better that that. After the race I learned that we had come second which is fantastic. We celebrated with a beeping competition!”
Aaron Crowhurst (14) - Joint Pit Team Manager - said: “ Saturday’s pit stops went really well. They were all quick; we had all learned alot from the mistakes made at Newquay.”
