A Successful Start to Child Development GCSE

The new subject - Child Development GCSE  - has had a successful start to the year, with a series of special visitors. Baby Thomasina, above, and baby Ned have been teaching the students about their needs and about the activities they enjoy.

Student Mollie Jewell said -  “ I have really enjoyed child development so far, it was great observing the babies and comparing their development. I have learnt a lot but it has been fun too” .

The students have just finished their first piece of Controlled Assessment on Healthy Eating in Pregnancy. Pregnant volunteers tasted and assessed the meals that the students made and the results were very good.

Mrs Bull (course leader) said “ I have been really impressed with the mature outlook and work ethic that the girls have shown so far. We cover quite sensitive topics, so their sensible attitudes are really appreciated”.

The pupils have also had a visit from a local midwife, who talked them through the importance of antenatal care. More exciting guests (including a 2 year old) and projects are scheduled for later on in the term!
