On Tuesday 25th March the Year 8 Rugby team took part in the U13 County Sevens tournament at Penair School.
In the group stages RLS were drawn against Truro School, Pool, Callington and Penryn, with games lasting 10 minutes in duration. The first game of the day saw the team come up against the tournament favourites Truro School. A great performance saw our team narrowly lose 3 tries to 2. The remaining group games saw the team run out comfortable winners, utilising the considerable pace and power within the team.
This meant the team qualified as group runners up giving them a quarter final against group ‘B’ winners, Camborne. In a one sided game RLS ran out winners 4 tries to nil, earning the team a semi-final against local rivals and hosts Penair. Penair started really well and their aggressive approach earned them an early lead. However as the game went on RLS grew in confidence and dominated the 2nd half finally winning the game 3 tries to 1.
So the day was to finish as it started, with a game against Truro School. Sadly the exertions of the last 2 games caught up with the team and they were well beaten by a predictably talented and well organised Truro School team. The result in the final should not take away from the outstanding achievement of our team. In total 19 schools competed on the day and RLS finished runners up, a great effort by our team. I would like to thank and congratulate the 12 students who took part on the day.
