Report by Sophie Gibbons and Abi Hogan – Year 7
The school’s Garden Club has been instrumental in creating the Romeo and Juliet garden for the Chelsea Flower Show this year.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is a huge event, held in London annually and attracts even the Royal family. This year’s secondary school garden is called ‘The Power of Love’ and features Juliet’s balcony. Miss Ritchie, one of the school’s Design Technology teachers designed the balcony and in preparation for the event Garden Club members have had time off timetable to make this centrepiece, using a router and spending hours sanding and painting before gluing and screwing it together. The colour theme for this year’s garden is red, pink and yellow, so Garden Club has grown Sweet Peas and Gavinea Gerberas . The Chelsea Flower show sent seedlings which needed nurturing when they arrived dehydrated and shrivelled following a traumatic journey. They are now revived and looking beautiful.
On Tuesday, a representative from Miracle Grow came to pick up the balcony which will be on view to the public from 20th- 24th May. The flowers leave us next week.
