The highly successful Year 8 rugby team have enjoyed another very successful, and unbeaten, season so far. Last Monday they welcomed King Edward VI, Southampton, to RLS in the fourth round of the U13 National Schools Cup. In a pulsating match, played in very testing conditions, RLS put in a fine team effort and ran out 17-10 winners with superb tries by Frank Holmes (2) and Cameron Bishop. They now look forward to travelling to Hampton School, London, in the quarter finals. This is effectively the South West England final and they are one of the last eight schools in the country!
On Tuesday the boys continued their winning ways when they met Newquay Tretherras in the Year 8 Cornwall Schools Knockout Cup final at Redruth RFC. After conceding an early try and penalty, RLS recovered superbly and were soon on the score sheet with a well worked Frank Holmes try. Despite a strong forwards effort from Newquay, RLS were always very threatening with ball in hand and the large pitch really suited our style of play. Further tries from Holmes (bringing his total to 4), Harry Lampier (2) and Cameron Bishop, followed up with some excellent goal kicking by Lampier (3), Josh Anderson, Kieran Brand and Sam Gapp, saw RLS win convincingly 47-8!
Well done to all the boys involved and good luck in your National Cup Quarter final on Monday 19th January.
