Two Students from Richard Lander went to Rick Stein’s Seafood School in Padstow on Wednesday 3rd December for the quarter final of the national Future Chef competition. Amy Rand and Mara Crowe, both in year 11, had already won two rounds to get to this stage beating competitors from local schools for the honour of competing in the quarter final.
The event was very prestigious with the likes of Paul Ainsworth judging as well as a number of excellent local chefs. Sponsors from as far as London attended and the whole event was hosted by St Austell Brewery and Rick Stein’s Seafood School. Both Amy and Mara cooked extremely good food and the judges were very complimentary about their food. M
Mara cooked a roulade of chicken on mash potato with seasonal vegetables and a chicken jus. To follow she made a steamed coffee and walnut sponge with a chocolate and coffee ganache and espresso syrup. Amy made pan fried fillets of sole with crushed new potatoes and sauce Grenoble followed by apple tart with cider caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.
Unfortunately, on this occasion, neither girl made it through to the semi-finals. Amy and Mara both received a cookery book and a certificate for their hard work and they both said they enjoyed the whole experience.
Well done girls you’ve done the school and yourselves proud.
