Ella Perris - An International Student!
Added 4 years ago
Ella Perris from the ARK is looking forward to a year of international travel as a result of her inspirational work with Get Out There!
Get Out There (GOT) helps young people with disabilities access leisure activities in Cornwall, allowing them to enjoy activities ranging from flying light aircraft and power-kiting to ice-skating, bell-ringing and surfing. GOT is mainly funded by Cornwall County Council and Sense, but a separate grant from the West Cornwall Youth Trust has enabled it to set up a drama group who will be performing ‘American Idol’, loosely based on the life of Helen Keller, around the world this year.
The play, which was performed at the Deafblind International conference in Belfast year, has won international acclaim and lead to an invitation for the group to open the Deafblind International conference in Romania in May. This will be followed by an exchange visit with deafblind young people from Senses in Australia, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary.
Ella’s accomplishments and adventures drew the attention of the Guardian newspaper over Easter and you can read their article here:
Other students from the Ark have also joined Get Out There and are enjoying experiencing new opportunities and friendship building out of school. Ella and Alicia took part in Get Out There Britain’s Got Talent over Easter and are pictured above right.
