On 27th June, ICT Teacher Mr Webb will be competing for Team GB in the 2015 European Aquathlon Championships in Cologne, Germany .
The Aquathlon is a sport governed by British Triathlon and comprises of 2 disciplines; Swimming and Running. In warm conditions (non- wetsuit swim) the event will be run as a 2.5km Run – 1km Swim - 2.5km Run but when the water temperature is low, wetsuits are compulsory, and the event changes to a 1km Swim – 5km Run.
Mr Webb, who has a long history of representing the country in swimming events, says his aim for the Aquathlon Championship is to gain automatic qualification for next year’s race and to do this he must be the 1st, 2nd or 3rd British athlete across the finishing line. He would also like to perform well enough to qualify for the World Aquathlon Championships with a long term goal of moving towards triathlon next year.
Mr Webb runs a gifted and talented swimmers trip to Millfield School every year, where last year students were lucky enough to meet an Olympic medal winner!
We wish him the very best of luck and can’t wait to hear all about the competition on his return.
