On the 8th December, six Year 10 students; Yasmin Stevens, Nyall Thornton, Alex Moreman, Jools Clarke, Kristina Catt and Connor Finch, attended the annual Lockheed Martin Engineering Challenge at RNAS Culdrose. The students competed with 12 schools from around the county to design and make a device for lifting a grounded helicopter. Students had to work in a team and assumed the role of either structural, electrical or mechanical engineers. They had just a few hours to design, construct and test the device before demonstrating their idea to the judges.
The students worked hard all day, performed spectacularly in the final test and won the entire competition. They were complimented not only on their design but their team work and technical knowledge.
Commander Bell presented all six with certificates, family tickets to Culdrose Air Day and a goody bag of treats.
A fantastic effort and really well done to all of the students involved.
