The Creative Arts Showcase

Added 4 years ago

This year’s school production featured 18 different acts of Dance, Drama and Music showcasing the tremendous talent of our students. It was very exciting and varied and took the school by storm. There was a display of some of our finest Photography and Art and a guitar recital in the interval, so the audience were provided with visual treats throughout the whole evening! Mrs Charleston - Head of Creative Arts said:

'We did things a bit differently this year!  The showcase was a wonderful variety of short pieces of Music, Dance and Drama alongside an Art and Photography exhibition during the interval.  We wanted to create a platform to truly reflect the creative talent we have at Richard Lander School.  The Music pieces ranged from Purcell,  Westside Story, Sir Edward Elgar to Pharrell’s “Happy” performed by our three superb bands, the Production band, The Jazz Band and Tersipchore (a mixed Renaissance Consort). The choir raised the roof with a medley from Les Mis – not a dry eye in the house!  The drama presentations included extracts from Kafka’s Metamorphosis, Shakespeare’s Seven Ages of Man, From Cornwall to the Cosmos ( a new play written by Owd’yado? Theatre company) and “The Body” by the late , great Cornish writer Nick Darke.  Dance included choreography created by student Chrissy Warren alongside GCSE contemporary pieces from Christopher Bruce’s “Ghost Dances”.  There was also a catchy Tap piece to lead us in to the Art exhibition at the interval.  Parents were able to enjoy some refreshments whilst taking in the GCSE Art and Photography displays.  I am always so impressed by the students’ enthusiasm, professionalism and dedication. The showcase format was a resounding success as everybody had their moment in the spotlight.'

“Many congratulations on a superb show. So much talent being nurtured here with a school clearly in support of all of the arts. Well done staff and pupils alike”
