We left for Toulouse on Saturday 22nd March, flying direct from Bristol to Toulouse and were excited, but nervous, to meet our French friends for the very first time! We were met at the airport and soon disappeared with our new French family. We spent the weekend ‘en famille’, with many of us meeting up to go shopping in Toulouse, which is France’s 4th largest city.
We went to lessons on Monday morning before having a guided tour of Toulouse in the afternoon to find out more about this beautiful ‘pink’ city. On Tuesday, we spent the day exploring the Cité d’Espace, which is a space museum and got a real insight into what it would be like to be an astronaut. On Wednesday, we had lessons in the morning and then had the afternoon off, because French students don’t go to school on Wednesday afternoons! On Thursday we went to the medieval walled citadel of Carcassonne and were all amazed by its history and beauty! Friday was our last day at school and we had to say farewell to the French friends we had made during the week. We returned to the UK on Saturday 29th March and there were lots of sad farewells, and a few tears, at the airport before we said ‘au revoir’ to our new French families.
We all agreed that we had had an unforgettable experience, and even though it wasn’t easy communicating in French at times, we all made a huge effort and are sure that our French has improved! We look forward to seeing our new French friends later this month when they come to Cornwall.
