Our 2022 Sports Day was held on Monday 11th July in glorious sunshine. With water bottles, sunblock and gazebos to shelter us all from the heat, the whole school headed out to the sports field to compete, to take part in non-competitive sports and to cheer our teammates on.
The PE staff coordinated all 12 events, with other staff helping out with measuring sticks, first aid, crowd control and time recording. Lander4Uganda opened an extremely popular ice lolly stand raising hundreds of pounds for our Ugandan friends. The RLS media team were on hand to document the event; making a film for Sports Presentation Evening and taking lots of photographs. Mr Williams brought his drone into school to provide exciting ‘from the air’ footage of the 100m and relay races.
Despite the fact that our students hadn’t competed in a full Sports Day for three years we had a staggering 9 school records broken on the day! A remarkable achievement considering we have been keeping records since we moved to the new site in 2007. Our 2022 record breakers were Finlay H – Y10 1500m, Eva A – Y7 Girls 100m, Amelia B – Y8 Girls 100m, Freya H – Y10 Girls 100m, Molly F – Y9 Girls 300m, Elizabeth G – Y10 Girls 300m, Lily B – Y7 Girls 100m, Y7 Pentire Girls Relay and Lucas J – Y7 Boys Shot. Well done to you all.
Well done to each and every student who competed in Sports Day. In previous years, Sports Day has been won by as little as 9 points, so we all know that EVERY point counts! Frist place in each event wins 12 points for a learning community but coming 8th in an event will still win a vital 4 points for a learning community.
