It is the responsibility of the parent/carer to ensure their child attends school regularly. This includes making the necessary arrangements for attendance at school, such as submitting applications for admission and transport where necessary.
Parents can apply for a season ticket to the School Transport Team at Cornwall Council who will confirm your child’s entitlement to a contract bus pass for the academic year and the allocated route for travel.
Pupils who are eligible for free travel are able to travel on designated school buses which are provided under contract to the Local Authority. This applies to any child whose home address is more than 3 miles away from Richard Lander School where the school is the closest school to the home address
Where a child attends a school which is not the nearest available school or designated school as a result of parental preference, transport will only be provided in very exceptional circumstances. Parents/carers should therefore be aware when making a preference for a school which is not the nearest or designated school that they will remain responsible for transport to and from school should their family or financial circumstances change.
Where spare seats are available on vehicles contracted by the Local Authority to provide transport to school, these may be allocated to children not entitled to travel free of charge – such children are referred to as ‘Concessionary Riders’. Concessionary Rider seats will only be made available where there are genuine spare seats available ‐ i.e. fully‐ available and not where absenteeism falsely indicates availability.
The Pupil Transport Team are able to advise you on any transport matters by contacting them on 0300 1234 222 or by email to pupiltransport@cornwall.gov.uk.
Pupils may also cycle or walk to/from school. There is a school bicycle shed and we are fortunate to have regular visits from the Sustrans Dr. Bike. Cycle helmets and lights must be used. Whilst every reasonable precaution will be taken to safeguard bicycles, there are no funds available to compensate owners should damage occur while stored on school site. Pedestrians, cyclists, scooters and skateboarders use the back entrance into school.
Finally, parents who drive their children to school are asked to be respectful to local residents and to park on the school site rather than along the access road.
