Curriculum: PE Key stage 4

At Key Stage 4, all students will take part in weekly PE lessons within their core entitlement. During core PE time, they will begin to specialise in their preferred activities. They will build on previous work whilst also taking on different roles within a sporting context.  They will be encouraged to become self-managers, working enthusiastically in either competitive or recreational environments; targeting improvements in levels of skill and fitness.

Students will become increasingly aware aware of the benefits of exercise and will have a clear plan with regard to managing their future involvement in sports related activities.

In addition to core entitlement for all students, many will choose to take an accredited course in PE such as the Sports Leaders and OCR Sports Studies courses at Key Stage 4. Students can choose OCR Sports Studies as an option or take the Sports Leaders course as an extracurricular activity. Both of these courses allow students to pursue a deep rooted interest in PE/sport, based upon practical performance and theoretical understanding, opening up PE and Sport related career opportunities.
