Today, we at Richard Lander School are declaring a Climate Emergency collectively along with all the other secondary schools across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
This is in line with Cornwall Council’s declaration of Climate Emergency in January 2019.
In collaboration with all the other secondary schools across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly we have drawn up a Green Charter for Schools. The Green Charter is here.
Today in school, from 11am, a team from the Eden Project hosted a special ‘Make the Change’ event to mark the start of global activity around the UN's Climate Action Summit.
All students watched a presentation during afternoon tutor put together by Mr Whipp on our current state of climate emergency and the vital importance of protecting nature. This included excepts from Greta Thunberg’s testimony in Congress this week and a speech made by Harrison Ford at the Global Climate Action Summit last year.
Richard Lander School have formed an Environment Action Group and are inviting students to apply to help the staff lead on this initiative. The Environment Action Group are very much looking forward to working with Interserve to reduce our school’s carbon footprint.
